Halloween recipes
Marshmallow witches recipe
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup vanilla frosting, divided
- 36 miniature semisweet chocolate chips
- 12 large marshmallows
- 1 drop each green, red and yellow food coloring, optional
- 1/4 cup flaked coconut
- 12 chocolate wafers
- 12 miniature peanut butter cups
- 12 milk chocolate kisses
- Directions
-
1. For the face of each witch, place a dab of frosting on the bottom of three chocolate chips; press two for eyes and one for nose onto each marshmallow.2. For hair, combine green food coloring and a drop of water in a small resealable plastic bag; add coconut and shake well. Spread a small amount of frosting on sides of marshmallows; press coconut hair into frosting. Place 3 tablespoons of frosting in a small heavy-duty resealable plastic bag; tint orange with red and yellow food coloring. Set aside.3. For hats, spread some of the remaining frosting in the center of chocolate wafers; press peanut butter cups upside down into frosting. Lightly spread bottoms of chocolate kisses with frosting; place on peanut butter cups. Cut a small hole in the corner of pastry or plastic bag; insert a small star tip. Fill the bag with frosting and pipe stars around the base of each peanut butter cup. Secure a hat to each witch with a dab of frosting. Yield: 1 dozen.

Halloween origins and Halloween today
Lo
que mucha gente no sabe es que Halloween es una celebración de origen
celta que tiene unos 3.000 años de antigüedad. Surgió en el norte de Europa,
concretamente en Irlanda, aunque también se celebraba en otros países como los
actuales Inglaterra, Escocia o España!!!, principalmente en Galicia.
Los
habitantes de los diferentes pueblos de la cultura celta celebraban una fiesta
llamada “Samhain”, que significa “el final de la cosecha”. Se celebraba el 31
de octubre, pues para ellos, ese día comenzaba el invierno y también un nuevo
año. Dice la leyenda que la noche de Halloween, la puerta que
separaba el mundo de los vivos del Más Allá se abría y los espíritus de los
difuntos hacían una procesión en los pueblos en los que vivían. En esa noche
los espíritus visitaban las casas de sus familiares, y para que los espíritus
no es perturbasen, los aldeanos debían poner una vela en la ventana de su casa
por cada difunto que hubiese en la familia. Si había una vela en recuerdo de
cada difunto los espíritus no molestaban a sus familiares, si no era así, los
espíritus les perturbaban por la noche y les hacían caer en terribles
pesadillas.
La palabra Halloween es una
derivación de la expresión inglesa All Hallow's Eve (Víspera
del Día de los Santos).
A
principios del siglo XX la fiesta empezó a extenderse por todo Estados Unidos y
comenzaron a llamarla Halloween. Años después dio el salto a otros países del
mundo.
Hoy
en día es una fiesta que gusta sobre todo a los niños, que disfrutan
vistiéndose de fantasmas, esqueletos, brujas y otros muchos personajes de miedo.
Las casas se decoran con calabazas talladas con caras terroríficas.
Además
de poder convertirse en monstruos por unas horas, lo que más gusta a los niños
es ir de casa en casa llamando a las puertas de sus vecinos y decir “Trick or
treat” (Truco o trato), para conseguir golosinas. Si los adultos les dan
caramelos, dinero u otro tipo de recompensa, se interpreta que han aceptado el
trato. Si no, los chicos les gastarán una pequeña broma.

Fechas STARTERS, MOVERS, FLYERS exam
Queridos
padres y alumnos:
Os escribo para recordaros unos últimos apuntes
antes del día del examen:
1.
Estad tranquilos. Habéis
trabajado mucho y muy bien no sólo en las clases de preparación, sino a lo largo
del curso escolar. J

Recordad que tenéis que
traer una serie de materiales para el examen:
- Lápiz

Goma de borrar
-
Sacapuntas
-
Ceras de color: rojo, amarillo, verde, azul, naranja, morado, negro, marrón,
gris, rosa.
3.
El examen es este
viernes día 12, de 15:00 a 18:00 aproximadamente.
4.
Chicos y chicas… Repasad
un poquito estos días el vocabulario y los verbos. Haced algún ejercicio de los
que os he dado en papel o practicad con las actividades que os dejé en el blog.
5.
A continuación os indico
las horas de cada parte del examen MOVERS:
Listening-
16:00 a 16:25
Reading and Writing-
16:30 a 17:00
Speaking- 17:30 a 18:20
ATENCIÓN: El examen para los STARTERS empieza un poquito antes, a las 15:30, así que nos vemos en el pórtico a las 15:15.

If you want to do some extra work out of class, find a group and create a picture dictionary.
The best displays will be shown here.
Si quieres hacer trabajo extra fuera de clase, forma un grupo y haced un "picture dictionary".

Remember what to do:
- Make a group of 3 people.
- Use a piece of cardboard. A1 size.
- Create a picture dictionary with the vocabulary that you are studying:
you can draw, print the pictures or cut the images from a magazine.
- Don't forget to include: 1. A big title.
2. Pictures + words /sentences.
3. The names and class of the components of the group.
Lo que hay que hacer:

- Utiliza cartulina tamaño grande. Si se te ocurren otros materiales, adelante.
